Extracts from Minute Book 24th June, 1832 :- “The members being perfectly convinced that the present hall is in a very decayed state, it was proposed that they apply to Mr. Proctor, in conjunction with the Gardener’s Society, for a new hall, for which they were willing to pay a moderate rent.”

30th November 1832 :- “It was unanimously agreed that there should be no dancing in the hall on the evening of St. Johns day next, it being in such a decaying state.”

The present hall was built in 1833 and replaced the old Malt Barn which was situated behind the Strathmore Arms Hotel.   The total cost of building was One Hundred and Forty Eight Pounds Sixteen Shillings and Fourpence Halfpenny. Strathmore Estates supplied the materials free of charge.
